Download Some Free Automotive Dynamometer Software!

Originally written over 3 years in about 1992 as part of a "kit" which consisted of a drum drawing, a sensor, and an interface card etc.  

Before you email me, NONE of these parts are available now!  This site is for information only!

This software is DOS based but looks like windows. (before there was windows!) and even the right mouse button works...  It will run on modern Operating systems, but works best in DOS or Win98 etc.  Some screenshots below...

This software allows you to look at a good few runs "built in" should you be interested!

The options button brings up a graph menu window not shown. This is one of the many graph screen options available.
Power can be displayed as horsepower or kilowatts, torque as lb-ft, Newton-metres or kilogram-metres.
Speed as mph or kph, or alternatively rpm may be displayed.
Or any mixture, and all may be corrected to any of five different standards.

Customers vehicles registration numbers and run comments fields can be scrolled through to find existing runs using the
small buttons or much faster using page/up page/down keys. Arrow keys select fields. Or use the mouse.
Tab key moves highlight around if mouse is not available (e.g. workshop environment) or try using all the F keys..
Or as in Windows alt-underlined letter works too!
Black screen option works better in bright sunshine or on notebook computers...

Customers names, vehicle details, registration or race numbers, are the means of indexing the run data stored
on the computer and setting up the appropriate run screen (clocks) scales and redline etc.
These three fields can all be searched later on to find an existing customer or a new one added.

Run screen, Go when the green light comes on just like the drag strip. The green section on the face of the
clock is set up on the main parameters page to start and finish at any desired speed.
The light sequence will only trigger if the vehicles speed stays inside this area, for a pre set time period.
This allows you to warm up the motor by running above and / or below this speed until you are ready to do the run.
 If you run in the green area too long, the sequence starts, but if you want to stop the sequence just speed
up or slow down to get out of the green area.

Once the green comes on sampling starts so now you can do the run. Sampling ends when the space bar is pressed or
after a pre determined time. You will then be prompted to add run comments and details for example:
G4RO DIFFERENT PLUGS or whatever. G4RO = gear four roll on test, AG = all gear run,
STD = standard, TRG4 = throttle response gear four, etc.)
 

Disappears when vehicle speed exceeds 10 - 12 mph and then the run screen clocks are displayed.
Try not to let anyone stand behind the vehicle during the run as stones, bits of tyre or a motorcycle chain
thrown out may cause injury.

A few more graph options. Sets correction factor standard to be used, The actual ASCII data interval as sent to
 the floppy disk and as printed out, gives the choice of plotting every point possible (every drum revolution) or the ASCII
interval as set, kph, mph, rpm, + more...

Parameters page. Allows you to choose Calculated rpm or no-rpm (all gear) or real rpm data, choose printer,
set up start light sequence and time interval (for run screen) and more.

Customers or runs can be un-deleted if you happen to delete them by mistake!

Read off any data directly at any point on the graph, by using the right mouse button, or click and drag a box to enlarge
any portion of the graph with the left one... Clicking anywhere outside the graph restores it to normal.

Alternatively maximum achieved power & torque values @ actual rpm (or speed) may be displayed for up to 6 runs
at a time corrected to DIN 70020, ISO 1585, EEC 80-1269, SAE J-1349 or un-corrected (actual power as measured).

This numerical data can be saved to a floppy disk (or printed out) every 1 rpm up to any chosen engine rpm
interval in ASCII format, along with lots of other data such as average rpm x speed (gear) ratio, actual correction factor
percentage, mph, kph, vehicle details, customer details, power@rpm peak,
torque@rpm peak values etc.
ASCII format is used because it is a universal format that any text program and even AppleMac computers users can read,
as used by most publishing companies. It allows them to reproduce accurate graphs in magazines
and papers directly using normal publishing software, from the data directly.
